Here’s the thing – I recently acquired a almost-new Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6, my now favorite lens. It was a rainy day and my UV filter hadn’t yet arrived, so what was there to take photos of?!

After having a think, I decided to go for the inside of the washing machine, just to check: 1 – how wide I could go, and 2 – how sharp the lens was at the edges. The conclusion: Very, and very.

This shot was hard to light since I only had a single 580EX MkII. I ended up bouncing it backwards off a sheet of A4. Inexpensive or what?! After a lot of processing, I came up with this ultra-crisp high-contrast black and white abstract. I’m quite pleased with the result…

However, I still don’t know how to use a washing machine properly! :(

A slight delay on this post, as I took the photos about a month ago but have only just got round to posting them. On a boring night in April, I decided to take my brother out to Torrington where it was dark enough to get some decent light painting done.

We experimented for ages with different lights and camera settings. The main lines were painted using a 99p white LED keyring and the colour changing lines were made using myLite for my iPhone. It was so dark, I had trouble lining up and focusing the shot. Tim had to stand still for ages whilst I shone a light on him to focus the camera, took the shot and then we both had to wait another 30 seconds for the photo to process.

Although it was as cold as, it was a lot of fun and I hope to pot some more light painting in the future.
